CARE
Community Alliance for Research & Engagement
We envision thriving communities that foster health and wellbeing for all people in all systems.
Research for Community Health
Our mission at CARE is to improve health in New Haven among people most impacted by disparities, including Black and Brown communities and low-income populations through collaborative research, practice, and engagement.
What is Health Equity?
Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be healthy. This requires removing obstacles to health such as poverty and discrimination.
At CARE, we strive to break down the barriers to health equity to ensure that all people can access the health and wellness support that they need.
There are higher rates of health inequities and chronic diseases in New Haven compared to the rest of Connecticut and the United States. Historically, the highest rate of health inequities exists in low-income neighborhoods, which are predominantly communities of color.
Prioritizing our work in New Haven’s lowest-income neighborhoods, CARE believes in a future where all our residents have the opportunity to be as healthy as possible.
